The invention relates to a single-engine power system of a sanitation vehicle and the sanitation vehicle. The single-engine power system comprises a chassis engine, a power takeoff, a chassis gearbox, a rear axle, an upper clutch, an upper gearbox, an upper power output assembly and a control mechanism. The chassis engine is in transmission connection with the power takeoff; the power takeoff is in transmission connection with the chassis gearbox, and the chassis gearbox is in transmission connection with the rear axle; the power takeoff is in transmission connection with the top-mounted clutch, the top-mounted clutch is in transmission connection with the top-mounted gearbox, the top-mounted gearbox is in transmission connection with the top-mounted power output assembly, the top-mounted power output assembly is used for providing power for a top-mounted system of the sanitation vehicle, and the top-mounted system is used for executing cleaning and sweeping operation of the sanitation vehicle; the chassis engine is electrically connected with the control mechanism, and the upper gearbox is electrically connected with the control mechanism. According to the power system, the problem of high energy consumption loss of hydraulic driving is solved, and the change of the output state of the directly-driven upper power assembly is avoided by adopting mechanical transmission.
