The invention relates to the technical field of artificial grass yarns, and discloses an artificial grass yarn and a preparation method thereof, the artificial grass yarn comprises the following components by mass: 38-50 parts of linear low density polyethylene; 12 to 20 parts of polyether-ether-ketone; 7 to 13 parts of amorphous copolyester; 6 to 12 parts of polybutylene terephthalate; 3-8 parts of lignin; 4-6 parts of reinforcing fibers; 3-7 parts of an antioxidant; 2-3 parts of a light screening agent; 2-5 parts of an additive; the reinforcing fibers are formed by mixing silicon carbide fibers and heterocyclic polyamide fibers; according to the invention, polyether-ether-ketone, linear low-density polyethylene, amorphous copolyester and reinforcing fibers in a certain proportion are adopted, so that the wear resistance, toughness and strength performance of the artificial grass yarn can be better improved, meanwhile, the high heat resistance of the artificial grass yarn can be better improved by cooperating with polybutylene terephthalate, and the service life of the artificial grass yarn can be prolonged. Therefore, the artificial grass yarn is ensured to have wear resistance, toughness, strength and high heat resistance at the same time.
