The invention discloses a brake control system and a brake control method for a closed slewing mechanism of an excavator. The control system comprises a slewing closed pump, a slewing brake mechanism, an electromagnetic valve, a slewing operation handle and a controller. The rotary closed pump is in fluid connection with the rotary mechanism; the rotary braking mechanism is connected to the rotary mechanism; the electromagnetic valve is in fluid connection with the rotary closed pump and the rotary brake mechanism; the controller is configured to control the electromagnetic valve to be opened according to a received rotation operation signal of the rotation operation handle so as to relieve braking control of the rotation braking mechanism on the rotation mechanism; and when the rotation operation signal of the rotation operation handle is not received within the first preset time period, the electromagnetic valve is controlled to be closed so as to start braking control of the rotation braking mechanism on the rotation mechanism. Therefore, the control system can actively control the braking operation of the slewing mechanism, and compared with the prior art, the energy loss of the compensation flow of the pump can be reduced, the braking reliability is improved, and meanwhile the risk that the motor is damaged due to stress can be reduced.
