The invention discloses a transverse reinforcing system for an existing hollow slab girder bridge and a construction method of the transverse reinforcing system. The system comprises transverse reinforcing units distributed in the longitudinal direction of a hollow slab girder body. Each transverse reinforcing unit comprises a prestressed steel structure mounted on the lower side of the bottom of the hollow slab through a bolt and a connecting steel structure mounted on the outer side of an outer web of a side plate of the hollow slab through a bolt; the prestressed steel structure is transversely arranged, a main body of the prestressed steel structure is I-shaped steel or box-shaped section steel, a prestressed steel beam and a mounting assembly thereof are preset in the prestressed steel structure before mounting, the prestressed steel beam is tensioned and fixed after mounting, and the prestressed steel beam extends from one end of the prestressed steel structure to the other end of the prestressed steel structure; the connecting steel structures are located at the two ends of the prestressed steel structure, the bottom ends of the connecting steel structures and the ends of the prestressed steel structure are bolted or welded and fixed, and stiffening plates are arranged in the connecting areas of the connecting steel structures and the prestressed steel structure. The safety and durability of the existing hollow slab girder bridge are improved, the construction difficulty is low, and the dead weight increase is small.
