The invention describes a safety door assembly (1) for a lifting window (2HW) of a structure (2), the safety door assembly (1) comprising: a sliding door (10) arranged to expose or hide the lifting window (2HW); and a barrier assembly (11) which can be closed to prohibit access to an area (25X) in front of the lifting window (2HW), or which can be opened to allow access to the area (25X) in front of the lifting window (2HW); and wherein the barrier assembly (11) is adapted to prevent the sliding door (10) from exposing the lifting window (2HW) when the barrier assembly (11) is opened; and the sliding door (10) is adapted to prevent a closed barrier assembly (11) from being opened when the sliding door exposes the lifting window (2HW).
