The invention relates to an expressway reversible lane system and a design method, the reversible lane system comprises a first conventional lane, a second conventional lane and a reversible lane; the reversible lane is arranged to be the same as the first conventional lane in driving direction or the second conventional lane in driving direction according to road traffic conditions. Compared with a conventional expressway full-width lane formed by an upper traffic lane and a lower traffic lane, the expressway reversible lane system has the advantages that the cross section form is different from a two-way multi-lane form, and a three-way multi-lane form is formed. Compared with a conventional reconstruction and extension mode of simply expanding the number of lanes, the method is high in traffic capacity, good in integrity, simple and convenient to design and construct, land-saving, obvious in manufacturing cost advantage, high in adaptability and particularly suitable for reconstruction and extension design of urban agglomeration radial expressways with obvious one-way traffic flow phenomena.
