The preparation method comprises the following steps: roasting high-quality aluminum oxide, and then carrying out heat preservation and rapid cooling to obtain a tabular corundum raw material with preset indexes; grinding the tabular corundum raw material to a preset particle size, and then molding to a preset moisture content and preset strength to obtain tabular corundum balls; and drying the tabular corundum balls to a preset final moisture content, and then carrying out sintering and crystal form conversion to obtain the high-volume-density tabular corundum, wherein the high-quality aluminum oxide is an aluminum oxide product with the purity of 99.9% or above; the volume density of the tabular corundum product can be effectively improved through a series of measures of preferably selecting different raw materials, finely controlling the grinding granularity, improving the balling uniformity, optimizing various parameters of vertical furnace calcination, stabilizing the thermal field of the vertical furnace and the like.
