The present invention relates to a niobate powder of general composition Li (Na/K) NbO3 for piezoelectric applications wherein the niobate powder has a carbon content of from 10 to 100 ppm/(m2/g), based on its BET surface area. The invention further relates to a method for producing a niobate powder and to the use thereof for producing piezoelectric materials.
