The invention relates to a masonry composition comprising a chemically treated carbon pigment. Specifically, the present invention provides a colored masonry composition comprising a chemically treated carbon black pigment attached with an organic group comprising an ionic group or ionizable group, the ionic group or ionizable group being present at a level of 1.0-3.0 [mu] mol/m2. The composition exhibits excellent color consistency and blackness and provides a consistent color after long term exposure to high levels of moisture.
