The invention discloses a method for catalytically synthesizing a mullite product from coal gangue. The method comprises the following steps: step 1, preparing raw materials; step 2, crushing and iron removal; step 3, proportioning; step 4, compression molding; step 5, drying; and 6, sintering to obtain the mullite product. The solid waste coal gangue generated in the coal mining and washing process and the catalyst separated in the heavy oil lightening process in the oil refining industry are used for catalysis, the silica-alumina ratio is changed by adjusting the ratio of the two solid wastes in a mode of combining the two solid wastes, and the sintering temperature and the heat preservation time are adjusted; the green mullite product with high mullite phase, good crystal development, high whiteness and excellent mechanical properties is obtained, a new technical approach is provided for comprehensive utilization of industrial wastes, the environmental problems of land area occupation, air and soil pollution and the like caused by accumulation of a large amount of two solid wastes are solved, and the green mullite product has good application prospects.
