Provided is a cubic boron nitride sintered body which has excellent wear resistance and breakage resistance, thereby being capable of prolonging the service life of a tool. The cubic boron nitride sintered body comprises cubic boron nitride and a binding phase, and the content of the cubic boron nitride is 81-95 vol% relative to the total amount of the sintered body. The content of the binding phase is 5-19 vol% with respect to the total amount of the sintered body; the content of Al contained in the binder phase is 0.5-5 mass% with respect to a total of 100 mass% of all the elements contained in the sintered body; the content of W contained in the binder phase is 2-10% by mass (inclusive) with respect to a total of 100% by mass of all the elements contained in the sintered body; the content of V contained in the binder phase is 2-8% by mass (inclusive) with respect to a total of 100% by mass of all the elements contained in the sintered body; the content of Cr contained in the binder phase is 0-5 mass% with respect to a total of 100 mass% of all the elements contained in the sintered body.
