The invention relates to an energy dissipation rod and a modular multistage adjustable shear damper, the energy dissipation rod comprises a constraint sleeve, two energy dissipation cores, a connecting sleeve and a constraint spring, the two energy dissipation cores penetrate through the constraint sleeve, and each energy dissipation core comprises a connecting section, a yield section and an elastic section which are sequentially connected with one another in the axis direction; the connecting section and the yield section are located in the restraining sleeve, and part of the elastic section is located in the restraining sleeve. The elastic section comprises external thread sections, and the external thread sections are arranged at the two ends of the elastic section; the two ends of the connecting sleeve are fixedly connected to the connecting sections respectively; the two restraining springs are arranged on the yield sections in a sleeving mode correspondingly. Compared with a grouting type energy dissipation rod in the prior art, the energy dissipation rod provided by the invention is simple in structure and easy to assemble; compared with an all-steel energy dissipation bar in the prior art, the constraint spring provides sufficient constraint for the yield section of the energy dissipation core, so that the yield section sufficiently deforms to dissipate energy, and the stability, buckling energy dissipation capacity and bearing capacity of the energy dissipation core are improved.
