The invention relates to the technical field of building materials, and discloses a cementing material based on calcined clay and a preparation method thereof, and the cementing material comprises calcined clay, steel slag, mineral slag, cement clinker, gypsum and an alkaline activator. According to the invention, a multi-component composite excitation means is used, through reasonable matching and use of the calcined clay, the steel slag, the mineral slag, the cement clinker and the gypsum, and through organic coordination of various chemical alkaline excitants, not only is a high-added-value resource utilization mode provided for industrial byproducts, but also the use amount of the cement clinker is reduced; the early-stage compressive strength of the cementing material is effectively improved, and the later-stage strength of the material is ensured. The method is wide in application scene and simple in technological process and has great potential application value.
