The preparation method specifically comprises the following steps: carrying out dry mixing on light mullite particles and shale ceramsite, so as to obtain light aggregate particles; uniformly mixing kaolin, pure calcium aluminate cement, rho-Al2O3 powder and silicon dioxide micro powder, and adding the mixture into the lightweight aggregate particles to obtain an intermediate material; adding organic fibers into the intermediate material for ball milling, and adding water for mixing after ball milling; after mixing is completed, the high-strength light-weight spray coating is prepared. The high-strength light-weight spray coating is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 35 to 45 parts of light-weight mullite particles, 20 to 25 parts of shale ceramsite, 10 to 20 parts of kaolin, 15 to 20 parts of pure calcium aluminate cement, 5 to 10 parts of rho-Al2O3 powder, 5 to 7 parts of silicon dioxide micro powder, 1 to 3 parts of additional organic fiber and 5 to 10 parts of additional water. The lightweight mullite particles and the shale ceramsite are used as different lightweight aggregates, so that the low volume density performance of the spray coating is ensured.
