The monitoring method comprises: acquiring an image sequence of characteristic object displacement on a steel wire rope; based on the image sequence of the displacement of the characteristic object on the steel wire rope, the relative displacement of the characteristic object on two adjacent images is measured by adopting an image processing algorithm, and then the total compaction settlement is obtained by combining the actual compaction times; and comparing the actual tamping number and the total tamping settlement with a preset standard value of the tamping number and a preset standard value of the tamping settlement, and judging whether the operation of the tamping point is qualified or not. The ramming frequency is monitored through the change of the motion acceleration in the rammer operation process, monitoring does not need to be conducted in the high-speed motion state of the rammer, and the ramming frequency monitoring device has the advantages of being high in efficiency, reliability and convenience and high in applicability.
