The mine fine tail mud-based unfired lightweight aggregate comprises the following components in parts by mass: 50-450 parts of mine fine tail mud, 50-100 parts of light sand, 550-950 parts of cement, 0.5-18 parts of an additive and 200-250 parts of water, wherein the additive is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and ammonium bicarbonate; the mass ratio of sodium bicarbonate to ammonium bicarbonate is (5-9): (1-5). The preparation method of the mine fine tail mud-based unfired lightweight aggregate comprises the following steps: carrying out microwave medium-high fire heating treatment on mine fine tail mud; and the lightweight aggregate is subjected to preservative film covering maintenance, maintenance under the environment with the relative humidity of 20%-35% and carbon dioxide maintenance. According to the invention, comprehensive utilization of the mine fine tail mud can be realized, and the prepared lightweight aggregate has the advantages of light weight, high strength and low water absorption, and has good application prospects.
