The invention discloses a damping device for a bridge installation stage and an installation method. The damping device comprises a first embedded support, a cylinder body, a piston rod, a second embedded support, a supporting sleeve, a first support shaft and a second support shaft. The first embedded support and the second embedded support are fixedly arranged at the bridge tower cross beam end and the bridge span beam end respectively, the first embedded support is hinged to the cylinder body through a first support shaft, the second embedded support is hinged to the piston rod through a second support shaft, the end of the piston rod is installed in the cylinder body in an extending mode, and the piston rod is hinged to the cylinder body through a second support shaft. The connecting positions of the piston rod and the cylinder body are detachably connected to the two ends of the supporting sleeve respectively and are fastened through the supporting sleeve. Compared with an original bridge damper, after simple structural units such as the supporting sleeve are simply added, the bridge damper can be used as a temporary fixing rod piece in the bridge construction stage, meanwhile, the bridge damper can be used for a long time after a bridge is closed, cost is low, and later disassembly is easy.
