An apparatus and method for detecting leaks. A device for detecting leaks, in particular in roofs, and/or in walls and/or ceilings and/or floors, in particular in wet rooms, comprises at least one conduit in which fluid can be conducted, wherein a suction device is in fluid communication with a first end of the at least one conduit. The aim of the invention is to make it possible to detect leaks in time. To this end, an absorbent material is provided, and the second end of the at least one conduit is arranged such that the fluid can be removed from the absorbent material, at least one measuring device for analyzing the fluid being in fluid communication with the conduit. The invention also relates to a construction comprising a lower layer, an upper layer and such a device wherein an absorbent material is arranged between the lower layer and the upper layer, and the construction comprising a plurality of measurement regions, at least one corresponding conduit provided for each measurement region, the second end of the conduit being positioned in the respective measurement region.
