The invention relates to the field of constructional engineering, in particular to an externally-circular and internally-square concrete square column formwork which comprises a wood formwork, vertical square timbers and a plurality of layers of arched formwork assemblies. The multiple layers of arch-shaped formwork assemblies are located on the outer sides of the vertical square timbers and are sequentially arranged in the height direction of the concrete square column. Each layer of arch-shaped template assembly comprises three first arch-shaped templates, a second arch-shaped template and a hoop which are positioned on the same horizontal plane; the first arch-shaped template and the second arch-shaped template are similar in shape and each comprise a rectangular plane and an arc surface in the vertical direction; the three first arch-shaped formworks and the second arch-shaped formwork are arranged on the four sides of the concrete square column respectively and form a structure with the periphery roughly in a round shape and the interior roughly in a square shape on the horizontal plane after being assembled, the square inner side wall of the arch-shaped formwork assembly is tightly attached to the vertical square timber, and the round outer side wall of the arch-shaped formwork assembly is tightly attached to the hoop. Annular pre-tightening force is applied through the hoop, so that the arch-shaped formwork assembly extrudes the vertical square timber inwards, and therefore horizontal constraint is provided for the wood formwork.
