The invention belongs to the technical field of waste plastic recycling, and particularly relates to a binder for artificial stone and a preparation method of the binder. The adhesive is prepared by depolymerizing waste PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) in a catalytic alcoholysis manner of a catalyst, carrying out polycondensation on an alcoholyzed miscellaneous material-containing mother solution containing oligomers, monomers, solvents and the like generated by depolymerizing PET, and diluting with a diluent, and the performance of the adhesive can be regulated and controlled by controlling the process conditions of depolymerization and polycondensation. The binder for the artificial stone comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 70-90% of unsaturated polyester resin; 5-30% of residual organic solution; 0.5 to 5% of an organic insoluble substance; and the balance of inorganic insoluble substances. The prepared binder is excellent in performance, the preparation method is simple, the production cost is low, and the binder can be used for industrial large-scale production, so that recovery and high-valued reutilization of waste plastics are realized.
