The invention relates to the technical field of road maintenance, in particular to a ground penetrating radar-based asphalt pavement density estimation method, which comprises the following steps of: establishing an asphalt mixture density estimation model; obtaining the proportion data of the asphalt mixture, and calculating the maximum theoretical density, the aggregate effective density and the asphalt content; an antenna of the ground penetrating radar is configured, and the optimal detection height is determined through amplitude analysis; respectively detecting amplitude data of the metal plate center and the track plate test piece through a ground penetrating radar, and calculating a dielectric constant of the track plate test piece; calculating the dielectric constant of the asphalt mortar and inversely calculating the dielectric constant of the aggregate, and substituting the dielectric constant of the rut plate test piece, the dielectric constant of the aggregate, the dielectric constant of the asphalt mortar, the maximum theoretical density, the effective density of the aggregate and the asphalt content into an asphalt mixture density estimation model for verification; replacing the dielectric constant of the rut plate test piece with the actually measured dielectric constant of the asphalt pavement, and calculating the pavement density by virtue of an asphalt mixture density estimation model.
