The invention discloses a gear and rack type ship lift climbing system which comprises a gear support, a gear and rack climbing assembly and a locking assembly. The gear rack climbing assembly is arranged on the gear support and engaged with the rack track. The gear support is connected with the ship reception chamber through a hinge assembly. The locking assembly is arranged at the bottom of the gear support and matched with the rack track. The influence of adverse factors such as inertia load, wind load, water body movement and structural deformation is effectively reduced, and the reliability of the ship lift is improved.
