The invention relates to an environment-friendly refractory material for a tapping hole of a converter and a preparation method of the environment-friendly refractory material, and the environment-friendly refractory material is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 60-80 parts of fused magnesite with the granularity of more than 3mm and less than or equal to 5mm, 40-55 parts of fused magnesite with the granularity of more than 1mm and less than or equal to 3mm, 20-25 parts of fused magnesite with the granularity of more than 0mm and less than or equal to 1mm, 2-5 parts of crystalline flake graphite fine powder, 1-3 parts of metal aluminum powder and 1-2 parts of silicon powder, 2-4 parts of furfuryl alcohol modified phenolic resin and 0.1-0.3 part of a high-temperature curing agent. According to the refractory material, furfuryl alcohol modified phenolic resin is adopted as a binding agent, the content of free phenol and free phenol is reduced, and then generation of harmful substances is reduced.
