The invention relates to the technical field of constructional engineering, and particularly discloses a device for positioning a vertical rod in a cantilever scaffold and a using method. The device comprises supports which are installed on the overhanging piece and move in the Y-axis direction, fixing pieces which are matched with the supports to form clamping grooves used for installing the overhanging piece and move in the X-axis direction, and locking pieces used for fixing the supports. The fixing piece is located at the bottom of the support. The invention further discloses a using method of the device. According to the device, installation of the vertical rod is effectively achieved through cooperation of the support, the fixing piece and the locking piece; the positioning rod is not welded on the overhanging piece, and when the overhanging piece is used, the support is installed after the position of the vertical rod is determined, and the positioning rod and the vertical rod are controlled to be coaxially arranged; and the cantilever part is not welded or cut, so that the situation that the cantilever part cannot be normally used after being welded or cut for multiple times is avoided.
