High-temperature composite material and method for producing high-temperature composite material
A method for preparing a carbon-carbon, carbon-ceramic matrix, or carbon-silica composite material, the method comprising melt processing a resin comprising a polyaryletherketone (PAEK) and at least one reinforcing additive to prepare a precursor part, pyrolyzing the precursor part to prepare a pyrolyzed part, impregnating the pyrolyzed part with a liquid second resin to prepare an impregnated part, and curing the impregnated part to obtain the carbon-carbon, carbon-ceramic matrix, or carbon-silica composite material. And pyrolyzing the impregnated component wherein during said pyrolysis, the temperature within the chamber increases one or more times at a rate of 1 DEG C/hour to about 20 DEG C/hour, and wherein optionally said pyrolysis is maintained at one or more temperatures for a period of time. Other methods include processing the oriented reinforcing additive and a resin comprising PAEK to prepare an oriented reinforcing additive PAEK, an oriented 1-2 dimensional sheet material, or an oriented 1-2 dimensional sheet material, thereby creating a fabric, prepreg or tape comprising the oriented reinforcing additive and impregnated PAEK. Other methods include impregnating a continuous fiber tape or fabric with a resin comprising PAEK and at least one reinforcing additive, or co-weaving a continuous fiber or fabric with PAEK fibers comprising PAEK and at least one reinforcing additive.
