The invention discloses an automatic parking system. The automatic parking system comprises at least one carrying device, an upper-layer parking space, at least one sub-lower-layer parking space, an exchange car hall and a dispatching device. The carrying equipment is used for carrying vehicles; the upper-layer parking space is used for parking vehicles, the upper-layer parking space comprises a plurality of sub upper-layer parking spaces, and each sub upper-layer parking space is used for parking one vehicle; each sub-lower-layer parking space is located below one sub-upper-layer parking space, and each sub-lower-layer parking space is used for parking one vehicle; the exchange vehicle hall is used for receiving and delivering vehicles; and the dispatching equipment is in communication connection with the carrying equipment and is used for controlling the carrying equipment to move between the exchange car hall and the appointed sub-lower-layer parking spaces. The automatic parking system is configured in the mode that when the carrying equipment is located in a designated sub-lower-layer parking space, the carrying equipment can achieve placement or unloading of vehicles in the designated sub-lower-layer parking space or a sub-upper-layer parking space on the designated sub-lower-layer parking space under the control of the dispatching equipment.
