The present invention relates to a transparent ceramic for a magneto-optical element, comprising: a paramagnetic garnet-type composite oxide containing terbium, lutetium, and aluminum represented by formula (1); and 100 to 1000 ppm by mass of Si as a sintering aid. (Tb1-xLux) 3Al5O12... (1), wherein x is greater than or equal to 0.05 and less than or equal to 0.45. The magneto-optical element of the present invention is an optical isolator which comprises a transparent ceramic for magneto-optical elements as a Faraday rotor (110), and a polarizer (120) and an analyzer (130) in front of and behind the Faraday rotor on an optical axis (102), and which can be used in the wavelength range of 0.9 to 1.1 [mu] m.
