The invention discloses a hafnium carbide ceramic organic precursor as well as a preparation method and application thereof, and belongs to the technical field of hafnium carbide ceramic material preparation. The method comprises the following steps: in an inert gas protective atmosphere, adding a hafnium source into a carbon source, stirring, then adding alcohol, and reacting to obtain a reaction solution; and removing the solvent, and then drying to obtain a solid, namely the hafnium carbide ceramic organic precursor. The method disclosed by the invention has the characteristics of cheap, simple and easily available raw materials, simple process, short preparation period, low cost and high precursor molecular ceramic yield; the prepared product is novel in structure, good in dissolving property and suitable for preparing the impregnant of the ceramic modified carbon/carbon composite material, and has important application in the field of thermal protection materials such as spacecraft shells. The invention solves the problems of complex reaction route, high cost, low yield, impurity content and poor solubility of the method for preparing the HfC ceramic organic precursor in the prior art.
