The invention discloses a light-weight cross beam supporting type climbing device and a climbing method.The light-weight cross beam supporting type climbing device comprises a stand column, an upper supporting frame, a lower supporting frame, an upper reversing box, a lower reversing box and a telescopic assembly, the stand column with a climbing hole is arranged on the lower supporting frame, and the upper reversing box and the lower reversing box are arranged on the lower portion of the upper supporting column; the two reversing boxes are connected through a small-stroke and small-tonnage telescopic assembly, elastic reversing claw assemblies matched with the climbing holes are arranged in the two reversing boxes, the telescopic oil cylinder and the elastic reversing claw assemblies are matched to form a climbing assembly, and climbing operation can be achieved through interaction of the climbing holes in the stand columns and the climbing assembly. Compared with a traditional cross beam supporting type climbing device, the whole steel consumption and manufacturing cost of a jacking platform can be greatly reduced, and the device has the advantages of being light in weight, easy to operate, high in economical efficiency and the like.
