The invention relates to lime paste-based mortar and a preparation method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of building materials, the lime paste-based mortar comprises the following raw materials: gypsum clinker, quick lime, coal ash slag, an epoxy resin mortar adhesive, a modified water-retaining agent, a water reducing agent and deionized water; the epoxy resin mortar adhesive is prepared by reacting silane modified montmorillonite with modified epoxy resin, and the modified epoxy resin is prepared by modifying isocyanate; the modified water-retaining agent is prepared through reaction of modified halloysite nanotubes and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether, epoxy resin chains are inserted into gaps of a silane-montmorillonite layer, formation of an epoxy resin cross-linked network is promoted, the adhesiveness of the lime paste-based mortar is further enhanced, the halloysite nanotubes are grafted to the surface of the hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether, and the adhesion of the lime paste-based mortar is improved. A polymer chain is formed, and the compatibility of the adhesive and the water-retaining agent is enhanced, so that the lime paste-based mortar has good water-retaining property and bonding property.
