The invention discloses light high-strength unfired ceramsite and a preparation method thereof, and relates to the technical field of novel building materials. The unfired ceramsite is prepared from the following components in percentage by weight: 15 to 23 percent of metakaolin, 22 to 34 percent of mineral powder, 5 to 8 percent of glass beads, 2 to 28 percent of regenerated micro powder, 1 to 2 percent of silicon dioxide, 11 to 17 percent of water and 14 to 21 percent of compound alkali activator. The metakaolin, the mineral powder and the glass beads are used as main raw materials of the unfired ceramsite, so that the geopolymerization reaction of the unfired ceramsite can be promoted, and the strength of the ceramsite is enhanced.
