The reinforcing steel bar binding machine comprises a screw shaft capable of rotating; a sleeve into which the screw shaft is inserted, the sleeve being movable in the front-rear direction and being rotatable; a fin member that is attached to the sleeve and allows and prohibits rotation of the sleeve; an urging member that is attached to the sleeve so as to be rotatable about the sleeve, and that does not rotate even if the sleeve rotates; an operated unit having a longitudinal direction in the front-back direction, the operated unit being operated by the urging member when the sleeve is moved in the front-back direction; and a gripping unit that protrudes from the front of the sleeve, is rotatable together with the sleeve, and grips the wire. The urging member is disposed in front of the fin member.
