The invention provides a vehicle control device, a vehicle control method and a recording medium. An operation of reducing power consumption of a smart entry function of a vehicle is executed at an appropriate timing. A vehicle control device is provided with: an approach detection unit that detects a person in the vicinity of a vehicle by means of a detection device mounted on the vehicle; an authentication unit that, when a person is detected by the proximity detection unit, authenticates whether or not the person detected by the proximity detection unit is a user of the vehicle by using a captured image captured by an imaging unit mounted on the vehicle; and a function control unit that stops a function related to the detection device when the time during which the authentication is not established after the authentication unit has started the authentication is equal to or greater than a first threshold time.
