The invention discloses lightweight thermal insulation mortar as well as a preparation method and application thereof. The light thermal insulation mortar I provided by the invention comprises the following components in parts by weight: 150-260 parts of cement; 20 to 50 parts of modified glass beads; 30 to 60 parts of modified silica aerogel; 60 to 150 parts of light sand; 1-3 parts of redispersible latex powder; 1 to 1.5 parts of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether; wherein the modified glass beads are obtained by modifying styrene butadiene rubber emulsion and a sulfur-containing silane coupling agent; the modified silica aerogel is formed by compounding chopped polypropylene fibers and silica aerogel. The modified glass beads and the modified silica aerogel are introduced and matched with other components, so that the prepared mortar has lower heat conductivity coefficient and higher compressive strength.
