The invention provides a preparation method of a rare earth layered hydroxide film, which comprises the following steps: carrying out precipitation reaction on an aqueous solution containing soluble metal salt and hexamethylenetetramine to obtain the rare earth layered hydroxide film, the soluble metal salt comprises soluble rare earth metal salt; the total concentration of metal ions in the aqueous solution is 0.05-1 mol/L; the amount of substance of the rare earth metal ions in the aqueous solution is 95-100% of the total amount of substance of the metal ions, and the temperature of the precipitation reaction is 60-120 DEG C. OH <-> decomposed from hexamethylenetetramine under the heating condition, rare earth metal ions, anions and water generate rare earth layered hydroxide and deposit, and the rare earth layered hydroxide film is obtained by controlling the reaction temperature and the concentration of the rare earth metal ions.
