The invention relates to a composite material comprising set cement made of a binder based on MgO and/or olivine and a reinforcing element for increasing the load bearing capacity, the reinforcing element being resistant to pH values of less than 11 and/or having a protection against pH values of less than 11. Additionally or alternatively, an agent for increasing the pH of the pore solution of the set cement may be added to a MgO and/or olivine-based binder of the set cement.
