The invention relates to a lane speed limit sign system for highway speed limit. The lane speed limit sign system comprises a plurality of LED light boards, a signal receiving and transmitting device, a self-checking device and an environment illumination detection device. The LED light boards continuously display corresponding speed limit numerical values in real time through the signal receiving and transmitting device according to a control instruction of the variable speed limit traffic control system, each LED light board comprises light-emitting areas distributed in a dot-matrix mode, the multiple LED light boards are installed on different lane pavements in an embedded mode, and the installation distance between the multiple LED light boards in the same lane ranges from 2 km to 3 km; the environment illumination detection device is used for detecting illumination intensity information; and the environment illumination detection device and the signal transmitting and receiving device are arranged around a light emitting area of the LED lamp light panel and are located in the same lane with the LED lamp light panel. Therefore, the speed limit values of different lanes can be continuously displayed in real time.
