The invention belongs to the technical field of breakwater design, and particularly relates to a vegetation wave dissipation ecological breakwater and a using method thereof.The vegetation wave dissipation ecological breakwater comprises a breakwater top, a cultivating and planting soil covering area, a water storage retaining wall assembly, a viewing stair, a buffering protection slope, a riprap prism and an artificial reef which are sequentially arranged from top to bottom; the artificial reefs are fixed to a deep water area of the upstream side of the breakwater at equal intervals, and the riprap prisms are fixedly connected to the breakwater feet. The buffering protection slope is fixed to the breakwater body on the upstream side of the breakwater and located on the side, away from the artificial reef, of the riprap prism. An alkali-resistant and water-wet-resistant vegetation area is arranged on the buffer protection slope and is used for planting alkali-resistant and water-wet-resistant plants; the top of the buffer protection slope is connected with the embankment top through a viewing stair; the cultivation soil covering area and the water storage retaining wall assembly are arranged between the buffering protection slope and the embankment top, and the water storage retaining wall assembly is located on the side close to the buffering protection slope. The water level rises to the top of the water storage retaining wall assembly and then enters the water storage retaining wall assembly, further rising of the water level is relieved, and the disposal time is won.
