The platform operation area safety protection device comprises a fixing frame, a first handrail, a second handrail, a connecting rod mechanism, a rope and a rope turning mechanism. The connecting rod mechanism is connected with the second handrail, and the connecting rod mechanism is rotationally connected to the fixing frame. The rope turning mechanism is arranged on the fixing frame, and the rope is wound around the rope turning mechanism so that the pulling force directions of the two ends of the rope can be different. The two ends of the rope are directly or indirectly connected to the first handrail and the second handrail respectively, and the first handrail is in linkage with the second handrail through the rope. And the height change trends of the first handrail and the second handrail in the vertical direction are opposite.
