The invention relates to the technical field of earthwork construction, in particular to a traffic trunk road basement channel building method. The method comprises the following steps: manually dividing a ground construction area into a plurality of single vertical shaft pre-digging areas; the pre-excavation areas of the two head single vertical shafts are excavated in sequence to form independent single vertical shafts; the two head single shafts penetrate through; performing backfilling and soil covering on the two head single vertical shafts to recover traffic; the next single vertical shaft pre-excavation area continues to be excavated to form a single vertical shaft again, and penetrating is conducted in time; backfilling and soil covering are carried out again; and according to the method, earthwork operation of the remaining single vertical shaft pre-excavation areas is completed in sequence. Therefore, on one hand, the construction length of each single vertical shaft is relatively limited, and side wall reinforcement, soil retaining and underground water leakage prevention treatment can be conveniently executed with low cost and low construction difficulty; on the other hand, after the single vertical shafts are excavated, the single vertical shafts can be backfilled and covered with soil in time, the influence on the surrounding environment is reduced, and the traffic capacity of part of lanes is kept all the time.
