The invention relates to a door protection control system (100) for detecting an obstacle (9) in a pivot region (10) of a side door (4) of a motor vehicle (1), the door protection control system (100) having a plurality of ultrasonic sensors (2) attached or arranged below the side door of the motor vehicle; and a camera device (6), at least a portion of the pivot area (10) being in its field of view, the camera device (6) comprising: a camera control unit (15) that captures an image of the pivot area (10) using the camera device (6) and performs object recognition on the captured image; an ultrasonic control unit (16) that performs distance measurement in the pivoting region (10) of the side door (4) using the ultrasonic sensor (2); and a door protection control unit (17) that determines whether an actual obstacle (9) is present in a pivot region (10) of the side door (4) on the basis of a result of the object recognition and a result of the distance measurement, and generates a signal indicating the presence of the actual obstacle (9) in a case where the actual obstacle (8) is present.
