Ultralow temperature and thermochromic roof and wallboard coatings
The present invention provides a nanoparticle impregnated coating for roofs and wallboards that provides efficient radiant cooling for buildings. The coating may be a vitreous enamel coating. Multi-scale nanoparticles including one or more of titanium dioxide, barium sulfate, zirconium silicate, hexagonal boron nitride, calcium carbonate, zinc sulfide, silicon dioxide, magnesium oxide, yttrium orthoaluminate, calcium oxide, magnesium aluminate, lanthanum aluminate are used to provide one or more of very high optical reflectance and optical emissivity, and spans the entire frequency band of ground solar radiation. These substrate surfaces include metallic roof and wall panel materials such as steel, corrugated iron, cast iron, aluminum, zinc, tin, copper and metal blends, and further include metallic substrates with metallic coatings, or non-metallic roofs of clays, terra cotta, tiles, bricks, fiber cement, concrete and stones such as slate, and blends of these materials.
