The invention relates to the technical field of limestone calcination, and particularly discloses a limestone calcination process which comprises a crushing procedure, a material screening procedure, a preheating procedure and a calcination procedure, a preheater in the preheating procedure comprises a first preheating area and a second preheating area, and coarse materials and fine materials are screened out through the crushing procedure and the material screening procedure; coarse materials are input into a first preheating area and a second preheating area from the top of the preheater to be preheated, and enter a calcination procedure after preheating; and the fine material is input into the second preheating area from the side part of the preheater and enters a calcining process after being preheated. According to the invention, the preheating effect on coarse particles is improved; fine particles are fully utilized, the preheating effect on the fine particles is improved, the fine particles can be decomposed more completely after entering the rotary kiln, the quality of calcium oxide is further improved, the energy loss is reduced on the whole, the utilization rate of raw materials and resources and the overall production efficiency are improved, and the production cost is greatly saved.
