The invention relates to the technical field of light ceramsite, and discloses ultra-light ceramsite and a preparation method thereof.The ultra-light ceramsite is prepared from, by weight, 25.07-60.0 parts of sludge, 0-20.82 parts of construction waste, 0-32.15 parts of ironmaking waste, 0-41.0 parts of fly ash, 6.42-27.5 parts of adhesive, 4-6 parts of swelling agent and 2-5 parts of inorganic salt. The preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing the sludge, the construction waste, the ironmaking waste, the fly ash, the adhesive, the swelling agent and the fluxing agent according to the formula ratio, granulating, and calcining to obtain the ultralight ceramsite. According to the invention, multi-element solid waste is adopted as a main raw material, and ultra-light high-strength ceramsite capable of replacing light particles is fired, so that a new way is expected to be provided for comprehensive utilization of solid waste building materials.
