Water soluble polymers containing methacrylic acid repeat units can be used as plasticizers for geopolymer compositions. The geopolymer composition is made from an aluminosilicate and an alkali activator plasticized with a polymer containing repeating units derived from methacrylic acid or a salt thereof, a methacrylic acid ester, or a mixture thereof.
