Particles of an alumina-based thermally conductive oxide, which are obtained by firing a starting material mixture containing an aluminum starting material (excluding those containing a boric acid compound). The aluminum raw material is at least one selected from the group consisting of boehmite and aluminum hydroxide, and the raw material mixture contains glass frit and may further contain at least one oxide raw material selected from the group consisting of a boron compound, a titanium compound, a phosphorus compound, a tungsten compound and a bismuth compound. The content of the glass frit in the starting material mixture is 0.5-5 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the aluminum starting material.
