The method involves transmitting a consumption data received from different counters (9a) to a calculating unit (A). A hydraulic model is updated permanently by the calculating unit based on the data. An estimated value is determined by the calculating unit. The estimated value and the measured values in different points of the system are compared by a warning system (W). An alert is triggered when the difference between the estimated value and the measured values is beyond the predetermined threshold. An independent claim is also included for an installation for implementing the water quality controlling method.
