The system has a surface layer (31) on an upper side of a core (30) and connecting unit (9,10,8,12) placed at the adjoining edges to connect the floorboards with each other. The surface layer has an upper layer (35) and an underlying layer (36a) such that an edge has a surface having the underlying layer parallel to a horizontal plane that is formed by the parts of the surface layer closest to the edges. An independent claim is also included for a method of making a decorative joint portion on a floor board.
