    A toilet bowl (2) is supplied with water as a flushing stream to flush out the contents of the bowl and to clean the bowl surface (24). During a flushing operation, nozzle rings (9,10) in a flushing arrangement use water to clean the bowl surface in a transition region from the bowl to a siphon (6). The cleaning power of the water is directed specifically at the transition region. An independent claim is included for a water closet.
