The building has an airtight layer including a set of airtight complexes (12) arranged on one another on steel vats (3) of a rooftop terrace (2). Each complex includes a felt made of mineral wool, and is surfaced with a vapor barrier made of aluminum. The barrier is extended on one of sides by a strip that is stuck on a side of the complex. The complexes are placed partly on the vats and partly against a vertical wall (1) so as to move the airtight layer along the vertical wall when the complexes are proximate to an edge of a flat roof. An independent claim is also included for a method for making a building to be airtight.
